Position Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:  The Director of Student Financial Services is accountable to the Campus Director and the National Director of Student Financial Services for the leadership of the Financial Aid and Student Accounts departments; responsible for the operations and administration of all student financial programs ensuring that policies and procedures comply with state, federal and Rasmussen’s regulations.
 
General Duties:
Hires, trains and supervises all campus student financial services employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; and addresses employee inquiries.  Conducts performance evaluations to effectively manage and develop the staff.
 
  • Interprets and institutes student financial policies to assure that the department complies with state, federal and College regulations.  Reads, complies, and analyzes all current and new regulations pertaining to the financial area.  Keeps National Director of Student Financial Services abreast of new/changes in regulations.
  • Responsible for the administration of all fund sources available to the student population.
  • Determines student eligibility and awarding of financial aid.  Monitors student academic progress to ensure students on probation are not awarded financial aid. 
  • Promotes and publicizes financial aid programs to current and prospective students.
  • Reconciles and prepares all requested financial aid tracking and metric reports accurately and on time.
  • Processes refunds accurately and in a timely manner as required by the Department of Education and the state.
  • Serves as a liaison between financial aid and other College departments.
  • Conducts and complies with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
 
Skills:
  • Requires strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from prospective students, admissions employees, managers, and other college personnel.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills are necessary. Must consistently demonstrate the ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs. Requires the ability to make sound judgments and take the initiative to make decisions/choices within the functional area of responsibility. 
  • Demonstrated problem solving and negotiation skills.  Must exhibit the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Demonstrated ability to benchmark best practices and network within the community to ensure departmental and organization competitive advantage.
 
Experience:
  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant, hands-on experience in college financial aid and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in a competitive college environment.
  • Minimum one year experience managing a diverse workforce in a fast-paced environment.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point. 
  • Must have good command of the English language, in both oral and written form.  A professional appearance and telephone manner is essential.
 
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related discipline from an accredited institution.
