Job Description

We are hiring a Systems Engineer responsible for maintaining a robust, modern IT infrastructure to ensure 24/7 production capability with a hybrid office workforce utilizing primarily Microsoft products, emphasizing Microsoft 365.

This a contract to hire position that will require to be onsite in our downtown Milwaukee office.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Server Management

  • Manage the existing infrastructure environment to provide 24/7 operating capability and offer and implement recommendations to improve uptime metrics.
  • Design, deploy, monitor, and troubleshoot all network infrastructure components such as LANs, WANs, VPNs, Wi-Fi networks, servers, routers/firewalls, switches, and battery backups. May require off-hours work
  • Maintain physical servers running a Hyper-V cluster with SAN-backed storage to provide a robust platform for a virtual machine-based operating environment.
  • Lead administration of Active Directory, Group Policies, DHCP, DNS (internal and external), Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and Intune setup and configuration
  • Perform proactive network monitoring as part of everyday activities to ensure optimum performance and act on real-time alerting of hardware failure.
  • Contribute to infrastructure projects using agreed-upon budgets, schedules, and development standards.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and lifecycles related to infrastructure hardware and software.
  • Build and maintain an IT knowledge base with thorough design and issue resolution documentation. Maintain network and systems diagrams.

  • Administrate backup environment, including off-site retention and disaster recovery capabilities using Azure
  • Document disaster recovery procedures for distribution to relevant departments
  • Assist in annual disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Update plans as needed to meet business needs or to account for changes in the environment

  • Maintain or implement new access control lists for operating equipment
  • Apply up-to-date firmware and software for infrastructure components to prevent security incidents
  • Keep informed of new and emerging threats, evaluate the potential impact on business operations, and develop remediation steps if required
  • Monitor infrastructure to assess baseline operations and detect potential intrusions
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of incident response policies
  • Analyze security risks and develop response procedures
  • Assist in business security initiatives to reduce the likelihood or potential impacts of threats
  • Collaborate with third-party managed security services platform


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as a network/server administrator/engineer position for at least five years
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or other IT-related degree or similar relevant work experience
  • Experience with HPE servers, Fortinet firewalls, Juniper switches with MIST, Extreme access points, Pure Storage SANs, and Rubrik backup systems.
  • Experience with Hyper-V server virtualization, Windows Server 2012 and newer, System Center Virtual Machine Manager, Microsoft 365 hybrid deployments, and Azure infrastructure/networking
  • In-depth knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, Firewall ACLs, Wireless)
  • Understanding of NIST Security Fundamentals
  • Related certifications are a plus
  • Experiencein writing documentation, policies, and procedures
